As IMFG publishes their new Perspectives paper, Harry Kitchen and IMFG Director Enid Slack have contributed an op-ed to the Toronto Star.
The article, entitled “It’s time for big cities like Toronto to get new taxes,” cites Kitchen and Slack’s forthcoming Perspectives paper, New Tax Sources for Canada’s Largest Cities: What Are the Options? in its argument for new taxes in Canada’s largest municipalities.
While it is difficult to implement new taxes, the consequences of not doing so may be worse. Many cities around the world have access to revenues from sources such as income, sales, hotel, fuel and motor vehicle taxes. It’s time for Toronto to have access to some of those taxes as well.
IMFG will release the new paper on Wednesday, November 23.
