Kohbod Khandan-Barani
Manager, Programs and Research
Kohbod Khandan-Barani is the Manager of Programs and Research at the Institute on Municipal Finance and Governance (IMFG). He holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Economics from Simon Fraser University and a Master of Planning (MPl) in Urban Development from Toronto Metropolitan University.
Before joining IMFG, Kohbod worked at Housing, Infrastructure, and Communities Canada (HICC), where he led his division’s municipal finance research. While at the federal government, Kohbod conducted research exploring the broader challenges and opportunities within Canadian municipal finance, with a focus on potential pathways, reforms, and innovations that could foster long-term fiscal resiliency, efficiency, and equity. In addition to his role at HICC, Kohbod has worked as a research assistant at TransForm Laboratory, contributing to the Future of Transportation Finance in Ontario (FTF-Ontario) project. His work at TransForm explored various transportation funding models employed globally, and focused on the factors that hinder or enhance the feasibility of implementing technically preferred transportation funding policies.
