In the article “Why Ontario’s planning act needs major changes,” IMFG fellow Dr. Aaron Moore argues the provincial government should revisit Section 37 of Ontario’s Planning Act. Section 37 allows municipalities to receive benefits, such as affordable housing, from developers in exchange for permitting developers to build properties which exceed city height and density restrictions. Overall Moore explains that Section 37 is too vague, and its benefits for municipalities should be clearly defined.
