This month’s issue of eFocus Municipal Assessment & Taxation, (subscribers only) a subscription-based taxation report, made mention of IMFG Perspectives No. 15 New Tax Sources for Canada’s Largest Cities: What Are the Options?, by municipal finance experts Harry Kitchen and Dr. Enid Slack, IMFG Director.
Based on a longer report released in 2016, the paper makes numerous recommendations such as decisions on public spending need to be linked with revenue decisions, to create greater public accountability and public trust; and residential property tax is good for local government with room for increases in most cities.
