IMFG Director Enid Slack Quoted in Durham Radio News

Durham Radio News.com interviewed IMFG Director Enid Slack for an article entitled Durham residents paying way more property taxes than Toronto neighbours.

In discussing the discrepancy between property taxes in Toronto and Durham Region,

Director of the Institute on Municipal Finance and Governance at the University of Toronto, Enid Slack says there are a few reasons Toronto can charge their residents less.

“That is partly because of the large commercial base and the decision to have a higher tax rate on that commercial base than on residential properties,” said Slack. “But it’s also a function of other tax revenues that the City of Toronto has. For example, the City of Toronto is the only place in Ontario that can levy a land transfer tax.”
